My first couple of days in this mountainous country are spent at the beautiful lake Iskandar Kul where I have the chance to enjoy some of Central Asias most beautiful scenery.
With a cool backdrop of mountains, lazy tree-lined avenues and pastel-hued neoclassical buildings, I move on to Dushanbe, Central Asia’s best-looking capital.
My journey east now takes me to an area that has been off-limits to travellers until recently – the Pamir Highway. Regarded as one of the world’s most scenic drives I now wind my way along this extremely remote high-altitude road and take in the mountain scenery of a region populated by yurts and yaks and studded with deep-blue lakes. This is wild-camping at its best !
